Movie Review - Hot Fuzz
Victoria and I went to see Hot Fuzz last night. Thanks to Hot UK Deals and See Films First websites we got free preview tickets so we got to see the film a few days before release.
If you have seen Shaun Of The Dead I'm sure you know what sort of thing to expect from Hot Fuzz. Where we had a comic take on Zombie movies in Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz does the same thing for the action movie, parodying such films as Point Break and Bad Boys 2.
Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg as Nick Angel, Super-Cop. He is the best cop in London, with a record 400% better than the rest of the force. His superiors feel that he is making the rest of them look bad so he is re-assigned to Sandford, a sleepy town in the country. His new duties involve village fates, amateur dramatics and the neighbourhood watch association.
Obviously this being a comedy action movie things soon heat up and there are murders for our hero to solve.
Some of the deaths are hilarious. My personal favourite for you to look out for was the one in the churchyard. I won't spoil it for you.
The film builds to an explosive climax which involves lots of slow motion gun battles and jumping sideways while shooting two guns. Brilliant stuff and very funny.
The cast are brilliant. Simon Pegg is great, Nick Frost is great. There are MANY cameos including Martin Freeman, Steve Coogan, Bill Nighy, Bill Bailey and Stephen Merchant, as well as many well known actors filling the main roles, such as Timothy Dalton, Jim Boradbent and Edward Woodward.
The action scenes are filmed well with lots of blood and gore. Actually there is a lot of gore all the way through the film, especially when people are murdered in amusing ways!!
Obviously there are also lots of geeky film references from other action films. I've already mentioned Point Break and Bad Boys 2 but there are many more. I think I even saw a brief one to John Woo when Simon Peg walked through a flock of pigeons, but that may just be me being ultra-geeky.
This is a great movie. Everyone who enjoyed Shaun Of The Dead or Spaced should see it. It is funny, action packed and very cool. It's also good to see a big budget English film as well.
10/10 - See It!
