My Wife Is So Clever - Again

It is our nephew Ethan's birthday today and Victoria made him the amazing cake pictured here.

She is so very talented and is going to start making cakes for a little extra money. When you look at the dull made to order cakes you get for about £25 she should be on to a winner if this pirate ship is any sort of example!

So, if anyone ever needs a cake making you know where to come.

Oh yes, sorry Tim, Phil and Rachel but you are all too old now for a pirate ship cake or I'm sure she would have made you all one. :-) Maybe I can convince her to make me a Star Trek Voyager cake though........

New Blogs

I have added two more blog links to my site. Ryan and Mark from work have decided that us bloggers are so cool they wished to join our ranks.

I have to warn you all that they are both in their early twenties and Ryan even lives with his parents, so their sites will probably not contain much of interest to us old folks. They will probably be full of talk of girls they would like to lose their virginity with and beer. If we are lucky there will be an interesting article on how to steal or 'TWOK' a car and how to get the perfect 'Grind' with your skateboard.

Still, take a look, you never know what you will find.

New Look

As you can probably tell I have changed the look of my website.

As I have neither the design skills nor the patience to create my own I searched the web and found a great website with lot's of templates on it called BloggerTemplates.

Unfortunatly, after I upgraded my template I discovered the nice animated menu's do not work in Internet Explorer 7 properly.

Oh well, everyone should be using Firefox anyway. :-)

UPDATE : The site is now working in IE.

New Car!!!

I have bought a new car. OK, it's not new, it's a couple of years old, but it's new to me.

I've had my good old faithful Mondeo for nearly 7 years and I thought it was time to say goodbye, so I part-exchanged it for a Vauxhall Zafira.

This is a great car. I like big car's and this feels BIG. You can sit a the lights and look down at all those around you (except 4x4 drivers - gits!!).

It has all the mod cons such as air con, electric everything, windscreen wipers etc, and it also has 7 seats. There are the normal 2 in the front, and 3 in the back, but there are an additional 2 in the boot. Just remove the carpet and pull them out of the floor. They are front facing and like slightly smaller versions of the main seats. Brilliant!!! You can also fold all the seats down and you have a boot that is about the same size as a van!! Even more brilliant!!!!

OK, so it's an MPV, and not the most trendy car on the planet, but once you have children you look at things in a different way, and this includes cars. The Vauxhall Zafira is just the family car for me. :-)

Bloody Weather

I don't know about you lot but I'm sick of this rubbish weather.

I normally like winter. I like really cold mornings when there is a little frost about but it's sunny. It makes you glad to be alive!

This winter has so far been rubbish. It seems to have been nothing but wind and rain.

I walk to work every morning. I park my car and walk the last 2 miles to the office. I do this whatever the weather. I don't mind rain. I don't mind wind. I hate wind and rain at the same time. My brolly gets blown inside out and I get wet whatever I do. I seem to have spent the last 2 weeks at work trying to get dry.

I don't know if you remember me telling you, but a few weeks ago the wind (which also keeps me awake at night) blew down our back fence. Slightly annoying but our neighbour thinks it belongs to him and is fixing it so no real problems for me.

Unfortunatly, this week the wind blew down a tree in our other neighbours garden which came crashing through another of my fences and is currently lying at a rather dodgy angle right above the part of the first fence that was not blown down previously!

As I say, bloody weather.

Self Respect

Phil has recently bought a bike and has begun to cycle into work. All good stuff I'm sure you are thinking.

However, while cycling he wears skin tight cycling trousers as pictured on the right.

Laugh? I nearly shat myself!!!

Quick Film Reviews

I watched several films over the Christmas holidays. Here are some very quick reviews.

Flushed Away : Done by the people who brough us Wallace and Grommit and Shrek. Very well made, funny and a good story. Well worth a viewing.

Rocky Balboa : I love Rocky films and this one could have been crap, but oh no, it was great. It was a bit silly when you see a 60 year old man fighting in a professional boxing match but it does not matter. It's a character driven story about a man who had everything and wants one last taste of greatness. Brilliant.

DOA : Dead Or Alive : This film is based on the Dead Or Alive videogame on the Xbox. The 'plot' has fighters from around the world coming together for the DOA competition. It is actually an excuse for Holly Valance and several other attractive actresses to fight in slow motion while wearing very few clothes. Highly recommended! ;-)

King Kong Extended Edition : This is the same sort of thing as you get with the Lord Of The Rings extended editions. There are 20 minutes of extra footage, most of it monster based. There is a great extra scene involving a river trip where they get attacked by a giant fish. If you like King Kong you will love this version.

Ghostbusters : Victoria bought me the Ghostbusters 1 and 2 box set for Christmas. We have all seen it and it is just as good as it always was.

Employee Of The Month : By the numbers comedy where an attractive girl comes to work at a Staples type store in America and the other workers find out she has a thing for the 'Employee Of The Month'. They then go through lots of 'hilarious' antics to win and bed the girl. It's actually crap but if you want to waste 90 minutes on a film that requires zero brainpower this is a good example of the genre.

SAW 3 : The same as the first two films. People get kidnapped and put in various nasty machines designed to remove one part of your body from the other parts. Very gory. If you like the first two you will like this one.

Severance : Shaun Of The Dead meets Deliverance. A British comedy horror in which a company team building weekend goes rather wrong. Funny, gory, excellent.

Happy Feet
: Dancing Penguins. Brilliant music, brilliant animation, brilliant film. My top recommendation!

Back To Work

Well, that's it then. Christmas is over, the New Year is here and tomorrow I go back to work after two weeks off.

I actually feel like I have been off work for about six weeks rather than two and am more than ready to return to productivity.

Christmas was good this year. Christmas eve the mother-in law came round for a meal. Victoria prepared a cracking feast. We had home-made pate for starters and monkfish for a main course. It was fabulous.

Christmas day was spent (as usual) at my mum's. We had the usual Christmas dinner and lots of wine. We also played on my brother's Nintendo Wii which was absolutely brilliant. Wii Sports was great fun!

Boxing day we went to the Door Moor for lunch. They have a new menu which generally means they have had the same menu re-printed in a different colour. The food is generally nice though.

The day after boxing day we went back to my mum's for a pie and peas lunch which was delicious! My step-brother Greg and his girlfriend Ruth came up from Cambridge which was good as we don't see them too often. I actually managed to drink a little too much wine though and later thought it was a good idea to go out for a drink with Tim . Victoria said I was too drunk but I did not agree. Tim kindly said I was OK but my short term memory was not good. Sorry mate!! It seem that Victoria was right after all.

Present wise it was a good haul this year. I got a camera bag so my precious Nikon no longer has to sit on the top shelf of a book case. I also got lots of DVD's, including Krzysztof Kieslowski's Three Colours trilogy and King Kong Extended Edition. There was also the usual whisky and chocolates of course.

Unfortunately my second week off was not as successful as the first. Sadly Victoria's Nan died on Saturday 30th December. She was 94 and had not been well for a while, but it's still a shock when it happens, especially for Victoria as they had always been very close.

Also, Alice was ill over New Year. She had a really bad cough and was full of cattargh. She was just swallowing it instead of spitting it out so she was practically choking in her sleep. Very distressing it was. Thankfully she is ok now.

It was also really windy over New Year in Dronfield and it blew down the fence at the end of my garden. Luckily my neighbour thinks he is responsible for it and so is fixing it today. I think I will keep quiet as I'm pretty sure it is my responsibility.

So, that was Christmas. Some good and some bad. As I said I'm back at work tomorrow and I'm sure it will be a shock to the system!! Please be gentle.

Oh yes, pictures are here and you can see Alice in her Christmas Day outfit above.
